Does anyone know a good place to catch crabs on the pier between jupiter and hollywood? My father use to take me as a kid and now that i'm older and in a new state I would like to continue the tradition.

We use to crab in long island and we would throw a cage in, using bait (chicken backs) for about 5 to 10 min and pull up crab. I was wondering if you can do the same thing here on a pier like long island?

Welcome to Florida!
I live in CT and I am still waiting for the larger crabs to arrive here.
I am only familiar with the New Smyrna Beach area for crabbing in Flroida so I can't help you out with locales to crab in your area.
Stop at any bait shop and ask where to crab. They should be willing to help you out.
If not just find another bait shop to patronize!
Ask the local fishermen and keep your eyes open.
Crabbing is better in Florida than Long Island and it's year around.
Florida just allowed the use of topless traps and that is what I use.
Look at the main page for kccrabpots. Nice guy and his pots are very nice.
Ring traps from K Mart or Walmart work well too!
Chicken backs are fine. I use skinless legs also.

Good luck, have fun and stop back and let us know how you did.

If you are familiar with the area in Long Island Captree is producing right now.

No you can use up to five traps here complete box with 3 escape rings. check out the FWC site under salt water fishing regs. As far as the rings and simaler  items they work great.
Chicken backs necks etc all work good. I use zipties to secure the chicken.
Pick any bridge or dock/pier give it a go for a few hours and see how it goes if not change it up to a new location. also take a bucket or something to put your crabs in. Limit is 10 gals aday per person per day. from land. here is the link http://myfwc.com/RULESANDREGS/Saltwater_Regulations_recbluecrab.htm . Have fun we have 5 cups or so in the frezer for a up coming get togeather .

The five trap limit refers to 5 commercial style box traps or from a pier or dock you can use 5 collapsable ring traps, 5 pyramid style traps or 5 open top traps. You can also use a drop line with chicken neck or leg if you want.

Good luck and report back.
