attention : we just started a business called www.crabtrapbobby.com. the site is  up. legal in md waters. bobby floats to the surface when jimmy grabs the bait.pull a full trap when bobby's up.allows you to check your traps without pulling everyone to the surface. pull only the traps with activity at the bait.less work, more fun on the water.

Interesting trap!
What happens to the trap if no crabs are around to pick the bait?
How do you retrieve the trap without a float showing?

Hey all,

I have seen these before, There is a line attached, the float rides up the line to the surface. The float is shaped like the wax ring for a toilet, or at least the ones I saw were and made from styrofoam. The issue with these is the legality of them. I forget how; but some how because of the fact that they alert you of the catch they violate some law, I believe... but don't quote me on it. The article I read was old and this was 3+yrs ago.
Other than the legality issues I think the idea is Fantastic, Anyone care to see if they are legal in FL?

shellfish; you have a standard float on your trap .this is an add on that alerts you if something is at the bait. if there are no crabs in the area you move the trap

muslicz; It is a fantastic idea .that is what i told my design team.the only ones that are illegal, at least in md, are the ones that are spring loaded and snap closed when they hit the bait.the law here is that the crab has to be able to go in and out of the trap.we just designed a way to let you know that there is something at the bait.

Looking forward to it and good luck With your venture.

I will definitely take a few to out fit my 20 some odd traps Smiley Need the topless ones thou Tongue I love it when I get the whole family to go so I can take advantage of the 5 traps per person rule and get all 20 soaking Smiley
I foresee these coming in handy with the kids as they are often impatient and now they have to wait till they see the float Smiley

muslickz, i finally got some news for you. the o model, for open traps is based on foxy-mate open crap traps meaning the height is 10 inches with a 14 inch bottom. If your open traps are taller we can make any size for you. we would have to know the length from the bottom of the trap to your top knot that connects all of your trap sides. so if you need some let me know thanks .
crabtrapbobby. ps, i will be putting a picture of the o model on very soon. thanks
