Gheenoe

Hi All,
I sold my old Sunfish sailboat last week and bought a 15'4"Gheenoe. I wanted a boat for the marsh and to fresh water fish. It is light enough and narrow so I can pull it over a dike by myself. I can also cartop it on my SUV with the help of a special hitch that holds one end up while I lift the other. I do have a trailer as well so have been adjusting it to fit and adding a bow eye and oar locks. Nothing like a new boat to get one active again. Got to try for specs and bass soon.

Hi All,
A quick update on the Gheenoes. Notice I said Gheenoes i.e. plural. Since that post I have owned 3 more Gheenoes. I also have become a part of a Gheenoe "Cult". Folks who get a kick out of being able to do more with less. It is great fun.
Well. back to my story. When the aforementioned Gheenoe was new, my neighbor and great friend from across the street wanted to buy my it (a hisider model 15'4" long) and showed me a classic model that was used and in great condition for $750 or about $250 less than what I paid. I went for it. It had a messy camo home made paint job, but also a 25 HP electric start motor. It was much heavier and a little longer than my hisider, but I liked it. I found the website of Custom Gheenoe on the net and became a member. The classic was too large and heavy for me so I finally listed it on the Gheenoe for sale site and sold it in 24 hours for $1500. The fellow that bought it repainted it and promptly sold it on the same site for $2700.00 I then had one of my Gheenoe friends looking for a used hisider and he found one. An old beater lowsider for $250. I jumped on it and rebuilt it with biaxial glass and epoxy. It turned into a perfect for me duck hunting boat.
I love it, but while hunting Lake Garcia I was almost swamped by one of the "twinkling ditch rocket bass boats" .He chose to blow by me in a 12' wide canal at very high speed. I could hear him coming so I know he was sub-sonic and throwing a huge rooster tail wake.
Some water was splashed into my boat, but I got to thinking my original hisider would have been a better choice for that lake. I saw an ad on Craig's list for "an old Gheenoe" and went to see it. It belonged to an old gentleman that lived right off the Saint Cloud lake on a side canal. It was in perfect shape, being mint throughout except for an easily repaired patch over some sctatches.
I now have a team of Gheenoe hisiders and they aren't at all tippy.
Best regards,
Sebastian
